Sixth on the grid, Hugo de Sadeleer (Tech 1 Racing) claimed his first win in the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 at Circuit Spa-Francorchamps. The Swiss driver was followed to the flag by team mate Dorian Boccolacci (Tech 1 Racing) and Lando Norris (Josef Kaufmann Racing). Starting from pole, the leader in the general classification made the most of the jump start from title rival rival Max Defourny (R-ace GP).

Fifth pole for Norris

In qualifying, Lando Norris posted the fastest lap of 2:18.299 to take the pole ahead of rivals Dorian Boccolacci and Max Defourny. Fellow championship contender, Harrison Scott (AVF by Adrián Vallés) was seventh behind Will Palmer (R-ace GP), Sacha Fenestraz (Tech 1 Racing) and Hugo de Sadeleer.

A first for de Sadeleer

At the start, Max Defourny took the lead, but received a drive-through penalty for jumping start. Will Palmer’s race was over following contact with Lando Norris.

While Max Defourny served his penalty, Hugo de Sadeleer inherited command of the race, ahead of Dorian Boccolacci, who just surprised Lando Norris. Sacha Fenestraz led a spirited field, while Harrison Scott and Robert Shwartzman (Josef Kaufmann Racing) lost big.

Later on, Hugo de Sadeleer went on for his maiden triumph. Dorian Boccolacci held off Lando Norris for a Tech 1 Racing one-two finish. Sacha Fenestraz was fourth ahead of James Allen (JD Motorsport), Gabriel Aubry (Tech 1 Racing) and Ferdinand Habsburg (Fortec Motorsports), all of whom made strong drives through the field. Eighth place went to wild card Nikita Troitskiy (Fortec Motorsports) who was followed by Jehan Daruvala (Josef Kaufmann Racing), Julien Falchero (R-ace GP) and Max Defourny, who salvaged one point.

Quotes

Hugo de Sadeleer : “This is fantastic. I’m very happy to have won. I didn’t have my best qualifying session this morning, but I got a great start. I then made the most of my low-downforce set-up to pass some cars and I knew Max had jumped the start. I didn’t try to catch him, because the tyres degraded quickly in the opening laps. I hope to do the same thing tomorrow !”

Dorian Boccolacci : “It was a good race. We were able to see the good work done by Tech 1 Racing on this track. After qualifying very well, we finished one-two and I’m thrilled because I got the better of Max and Harrison, who I am battling with in the general classification. I hope to do it again tomorrow, while swapping places with Hugo !”

Lando Norris : “This could be the hardest weekend of our season. We struggled a lot yesterday in the collective tests. We knew we could do better, but getting the pole was a little surprising ! We knew the race would be difficult, but I was worried about a puncture after the contact on the opening lap. When Max went in for his penalty, I tried not to make a mistake, but Dorian got by me. I tried to recover my position several times, but there was a yellow flag when the best opportunity came out.”

Provisional general classification*
