An international series spread evenly through mainland Europe, the 2015 Clio R3T European Trophy season begins in Italy with Rally Il Ciocco e Valle del Serchio (21-22 March). Five drivers, starting with the three-time European Rally Champion Luca Rossetti, will compete against one another in Clio R3Ts. The aim, at the end of the season, is to qualify for the final which will be held at the 2016 Rallye Monte-Carlo, in the hope of securing a drive in next year’s WRC3 !

Following the launch of Renault Clio R3T in the second half of the 2014 season, Renault Sport has now set up the Clio R3T European Trophy. Thanks to its unique and innovative format, the competition allows drivers to put together their own calendar, based on several possible geographical areas. At the end of the season, the drivers that have amassed the most points will qualify for the exciting final round, held at the 2016 Rallye Monte-Carlo. The overall winner will be rewarded with a works programme in the WRC3 in a Clio R3T.

The opening round in the Italy area, Rally Il Ciocco e Valle del Serchio kicks off the 2015 season with five entrants, all determined to get off to the best possible start. And looking at the competitive records of the drivers taking part, we could well be in for a hotly-contested rally. Luca Rossetti takes top billing and has a very impressive CV ; the three-time European Champion has a wealth of experience and starts as the undisputed favourite.

However, he will be up against some very serious rivals, such as the up-and-coming Giacomo Scattolon, Italian Junior Champion, or Ivan Ferrarotti, winner of the Italian Clio R3 Trophy. Runner-up to Ferrarotti, Fabrizio Andolfi Jr, and the Slovenian Aleks Humar, a very experienced R3 driver, will also provide motivated challengers.

Shortly after this event, Rallye Epernay – Vins de Champagne (27-29 March) will mark the start of the Trophy in the France area, whilst Rallye Sanremo (8-11 April) will provide the Italy area drivers with the chance to pursue their hunt for the title.

“We’re pleased to get the Clio R3T European Trophy up and running,” admitted Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault Sport’s Director of Motorsport. “Since our announcement in October of last year, we are delighted to note the competition generated by creating this trophy in the rallying world. The car has already produced some fine performances and the events promise to be hotly contested throughout the season, right up to the finale in Monte-Carlo between the crews hoping to secure a drive in next year’s WRC3 World Championship. The quality of the drivers competing at Rally ll Ciocco is there for all to see and augurs well for a great year ahead.”
