Picture Perfect

A nice relaxed portrait of Jolyon taken during the Thursday media-day prior to the GP. By using a shallow depth of field and a zoom lens, an informal and natural portrait is captured whilst Jolyon is interviewed by a tv broadcaster.
Canon 1DX 70-200mm lens, 1/1250th sec @ f2.8

A macro photo of test driver Esteban Ocon during FP1. By moving in close and having a very narrow band of focus the viewer is brought into his thoughts and concentration behind the visor.
Canon 1DX 50mm lens, 1/250th sec @ f.14

This shot of Kevin is taken high up in the final corner grandstand. By zooming out and including the colourful run-off area designs, and composing the shot with the car in the top left hand corner it is given a graphic quality.
Canon 1DX, 70-200mm lens, 1/125th sec @f9

Close up detail of the RS16 nosecone. A band of light in the otherwise dark garage highlights the curves of the bodywork, and a wide aperture throws the background out of focus.
Canon 1DX, 50mm lens, 1/320th sec @ f1.4

A large number of Danish fans were in Germany to see their hero. A fan of Kevin’s is spotted here at the driver autograph session trying to get his shirt signed. Photographed from the stage, Kevin was only too happy to oblige with a signature.
Canon 1DX 70-200mm lens, 1/1000th sec @ f4.5

Jolyon rides in a vintage car during the drivers parade. By shooting from the pitwall and using a very slow shutter speed and a steady hand, you create this effect of adding speed and drama to the image.
Canon 1DX, 70-200mm lens, 1/15th sec @ f32

As the grid girls leave moments before the start of the race, The teams are putting the final preparations into place. The bright yellow of the two RS16’s really stand out amongst their competitors. This shot is taken on a long telephoto lens from up high in a grandstand.
Canon 1DX, 500mm lens, 1/1250th sec @ f5

This rear shot is captured at the very fast turn one. By positioning yourself directly behind the car on the exit of the corner, you get this unique view of the RS16 using every inch of the kerbing on the outside of the corner.
Canon 1DX, 500mm lens, 1/2000th sec @ f4.5

Jolyon turns onto the start/finish line for a qualifying attack. By using the kerbs and the colours of the track lines, a bright and graphic composition is created. A fast shutter speed freezes the action.
Canon 1DX, 500mm lens, 1/1250th sec @ f5

In the final few laps of the race the ’marbles’ of rubber are scattered across the circuit. Here, as Kevin starts another lap a narrow strip of tarmac remains clear on the racing line and focus on these marbles, throws the car into the background.
