The team practice their pitstop technique up to 30 times each GP weekend. The pitstop is simulated by pushing the car into position. By using an extremely slow shutter speed and panning smoothly with the car early in the morning, you create this effect as the pit crew goes to work.

Kevin has his first experience of the new Halo safety device during FP1. The carbon fibre hoop is tested to gauge driver visibility, and this shot of Kevin taken on a zoom lens from the front of the garage shows his first impressions of the Halo.

Brightly coloured logos are painted onto the run off areas of the track. By panning with the car and using these colours as a blurred foreground along with a low shutter speed to emphasise the speed of the car you create this unique effect.

A long telephoto lens freezes Kevin in a frame filling action shot. By pressing the shutter in a split second the local ’Mexico’ branding is captured in the background.

Early morning light greeted us during FP3. By shooting directly into the sun, and darkening the exposure for the highlights, you achieve this silhouetted artistic shot. The composition and light reflecting off the kerbs add to the image.

The ’Stadium’ area of the Mexican GP is unique in motorsport. Its original use was as a baseball stadium. But with the regeneration of the track, a wonderful amphitheatre of fans greet the cars each lap as they enter this noisy bowl.
By shooting from the back row of the grandstand on a wide angle lens you emphasise the atmosphere within the arena.

Kevin’s eyes loom out of his helmet as he sits pensively in the cockpit during qualifying. Setting a very shallow depth of field and using the tv monitor and antennas as a blurred foreground you create this image that draws the viewers glance to his eyes.
Canon 1DX 70-200mm lens 1/250th sec @ f2.8

Jolyon embraces the local fashion during the drivers parade. He is captured in a sombrero in front of the huge crowd at the infamous stadium section of the track.
Canon 1DX 500mm lens lens, 1/2000th sec @ f4

A different view of the stadium section of the circuit. This time looking towards the grandstand as the cars exit between the fans, and into the final corner. The packed grandstands and ’Mexico’ branding add to the image.
Canon 1DX 70-200mm lens 1/1000th sec @ f6.3

A tricky shot to get right, but very satisfying when you do. An ultra slow shutter speed gives the image the dramatic effect of speed, and a very smooth movement of the camera to follow the car retains sharpness in Jolyons helmet.
