Nico Rosberg secured his first-ever Formula 1 pole position at the Shanghai International Circuit today.
The German will start tomorrow’s Chinese Grand Prix on the front row, lining up ahead of team-mate Michael Schumacher after Lewis Hamilton, who set the second quickest time of the day, serves his five-place grid penalty for changing a gearbox.
Red Bull Racing-Renault had a more difficult qualifying, with Mark Webber qualifying in seventh* and Sebastian Vettel in 11th.
Lotus F1 Team had a successful qualifying with Kimi Raikkonen setting the fifth quickest time and Romain Grosjean the tenth.
Williams F1 Team will line up with Pastor Maldonado in 13th and Bruno Senna 14th while Caterham F1 Team will start 19th and 20th with Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov respectively.
* Webber will start in sixth after Hamilton’s penalty.
