Red Bull Racing to start on front row for British Grand Prix

Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber will start tomorrow’s British Grand Prix from second position after a dramatic qualifying.

The session started with light rain, which gradually worsened until it became a torrential downpour for the start of Q2. Some drivers made exploratory laps on intermediate tyres but it became clear very quickly that even extreme wets would not even be sufficient. The session was red flagged with 6m 19 remaining and restarted over one hour later.

Mark will start from the front row behind Fernando Alonso. Team mate Sebastian Vettel will start fourth, while Lotus F1 Team’s Kimi Raikkonen will start sixth. Pastor Maldonado (Williams F1 Team) set the seventh quickest time.

Fallers in Q2 included Williams F1 Team’s Bruno Senna, who set the 15th quickest time. Lotus F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean made the grade for Q3 but spun into the gravel trap on his last lap and could take no further part in the qualifying session.

Caterham F1 Team will start in P19 with Vitaly Petrov and P20 with Heikki Kovalainen.
