Loyal to their programme of spotting and promoting motor racing hopefuls, Renault Sport Technologies, Renault Sport F1 and Infiniti Red Bull Racing continued this operation of allowing their young charges to spend a weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, in the heart of the Belgian Grand Prix paddock.
For three days, the Infiniti Red Bull Racing team and Renault Sport F1 hosted Matthieu Vaxiviere, Dean Stoneman and Tom Dillmann into the F1 circus.
The three drivers had the chance to watch the action before a lunch with Infiniti Red Bull Racing Team Principal, Christian Horner, before joining the pit lane to meet the Scuderia Toro Rosso drivers, Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, defending Formula Renault 3.5 Series champion.
The group also met with Blake Hinsey, Performance Engineer, and Michael Manning, Trackside Control Engineer at Infiniti Red Bull Racing, who answered their questions, while giving them invaluable advice for their futures. They then spent time with Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat, both of whom cut their teeth in the World Series by Renault.
On Sunday, Matthieu Vaxiviere, Dean Stoneman and Tom Dillmann met with the Renault Sport F1 engineers and the key-technicians from Pirelli. They experienced the race in the heart of the action from the Infiniti Red Bull Racing garage, they had the opportunity to see the podium in hoping they too will make it on to the rostrum in a few days when they return to competition.
Jean-Pascal Dauce, Renault Sport Technologies Director of Competition : “Each year we want our drivers to make the most of genuine assets that can help them take that final step. With these encounters and thanks to our partners, they can speak with the actors of Formula 1, who openly and without concession meet with them, in very privileged conditions. This year, we have put the emphasis on an extremely qualitative programme throughout the weekend so they can derive a maximum of information. They can now reap the benefits to continue their climb and maybe enlarge the list of 21 drivers who have moved on from the World Series by Renault to F1, or those of our former drivers who today are professionals !”
Matthieu Vaxiviere : “I’d like to thank Renault Sport for this exclusive experience ! To see the F1 world up close is always a huge motivation and very enriching. I am grateful to all the technical staff who gave us time despite their heavy workload.”
Dean Stoneman : “Thanks to Renault Sport for giving me the chance to be a part of a fantastic weekend. It’s been an amazing few days, which certainly help me reaching my ultimate dream, Formula 1. Also thanks to Red Bull for their hospitality.”
Tom Dillmann : “A big thank you to Renault Sport and its partners for the invitation. It is an interesting experience because it has allowed me to venture behind the F1 scenes and most especially speak with the experts at Renault Sport and Infiniti Red Bull Racing.”
