Since making its first outing, the Renault Sport R.S. 01 has spent 17 days on the track and racked up a total of 7,475 kilometres. A number of drivers have been helping with the development of the future star of the World Series by Renault, putting it through its paces on circuits in Spain and Italy.
Alexandre Prémat, Andy Soucek, Albert Costa, Mirko Bortolotti, Dimitri Enjalbert, Anthony Beltoise, Nick Castburg, Renaud Kuppens and Renault Sport driver Laurent Hurgon form part of the panel chosen by Renault Sport Technologies, with other drivers from the world of Endurance and Formula One also lending their assistance.
The drivers taking part in the development process have all remarked on the Renault Sport R.S. 01’s sheer driveability. Likening it to a single-seater, they pointed to its stability, reactive steering and very high aerodynamic downforce, which allows drivers to settle in very quickly at the wheel.
The car’s other attributes include very powerful and smooth braking with ABS, driving mode selector on the steering-wheel, an engine delivering a lot of torque and very hard-wearing Michelin tyres.
Dimitri Enjalbert : “When Renault Sport called me to develop this car, I really thought I’d be sitting at the wheel of a slightly enhanced Megane Trophy. But I couldn’t have been more wrong. The Renault Sport R.S. 01 is more like a prototype or a DTM. It really is a superb car.”
