Vettel to start home Grand Prix from second position

Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel will start from second position behind Fernando Alonso for his home Grand Prix tomorrow.

Four Renault engined drivers will start in the top ten after a rain-lashed qualifying: Mark Webber qualified in third, but with the application of a five-place grid penalty for changing a gearbox this morning he will line up eighth. Williams F1 Team’s Pastor Maldonado will start from fifth with Lotus F1 Team’s Kimi Raikkonen 10th.

Heavy showers arrived over the Hockenheimring in time for the start of Q2, leading to a flurry of activity before the track became drenched. Lotus F1 Team’s Romain Grosjean could not make the most of the dry line and finished the session with the 15th quickest time. Likewise Bruno Senna (Williams F1 Team) finished in 16th.

Caterham F1 Team set the 19th and 20th quickest times with Heikki Kovalainen and Vitaly Petrov respectively.
