Renault Sport Academy’s Jack Aitken is primed and ready for the conclusion to the 2017 GP3 Series in Abu Dhabi in support of the Formula 1 season finale.

Jack will be aiming to confirm runners-up spot in the championship for ART after he missed out on the title to team-mate George Russell at the last round in Jerez in October.

The 22-year-old leads fellow team-mate Nirei Fukuzumi by six points in second place with Anthoine Hubert, another ART man, a further 17 points adrift.

It’s been a rollercoaster year for Jack in his second year competing in GP3. Things began well in Barcelona in May where he seized pole position only to be hampered by technical issues in the races which meant he left Spain empty handed.

Back-to-back podiums across the next two rounds in Austria and Great Britain, before taking a maximum 31 points - after winning from pole and bagging the fastest lap in Hungary – put Jack right back in the mix. Two further podiums were added in Spa and Monza, but a third and a sixth at the last round in Jerez were not enough as compatriot Russell claimed the title.

Jack needs eight points in Abu Dhabi to surpass last season’s tally of 148 points, where a fine end of year run saw him scoop six podiums from the final seven races.

Yas Marina proved a happy hunting ground for Jack twelve months ago. He qualified third and held that position in the first race also taking the fastest lap to claim 17 points.

In race two, Jack weaved his way from sixth on the grid to take an impressive second which meant he ended his campaign in style.

"I’m really looking forward to getting back into the car as it’s been a while since the last round in Jerez. I want to finish on a bright note to cap off the year, and secure second place in the championship. Yas Marina is quite a technical circuit with lots of slow speed corners. Still, there’s more than one way to be fast there and there are a number of good overtaking spots. I had a double podium last year in Abu Dhabi so I’ll be aiming to repeat that form!”
