Renault Sport Academy Driver Jack Aitken is aiming to carry on from where he left off in Budapest as the GP3 series returns at Spa-Francorchamps this weekend.

Jack took a first victory of the season at the Hungaroring in July to close in on title rival and team-mate George Russell at the top of the Drivers’ Championship.

The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive outing in Hungary as he took pole position in qualifying and followed that up with a race one victory and the fastest lap to take the maximum 31 points – the first GP3 driver to achieve that feat in 2017.

And those valuable points meant he closed the gap to compatriot Russell to nine points after the championship leader failed to score a point from the weekend.

Last year, the weekend in Belgium seemed to kick Jack’s season into gear as he took a maiden GP3 win in the Sprint race around the famous circuit.

That ignited a purple patch of form as Jack finished five out of the final six races on the podium, proving he was the man to beat in the second-half of the season.

“It was nice to go into the summer break with a bit of a smile and well in the championship mix. I think the tracks coming up will suit me more because I had a really strong end to last year which gives me some confidence.

“Spa is my favourite track on the calendar but most drivers tend to like it! Eau Rouge is mega fun, it’s one of the corners which makes your eyes pop out! The racing should be awesome and I won my first GP3 race there last year so that’s a good memory for me. We can go there with a bit of momentum so we’ll see what we can do.”
