If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the nascent world of Esports, you can now find out thanks to a trail-blazing new documentary series that follows the preparation of Renault Sport Team Vitality for the 2019 F1™ Esport Series season.
Back on Track takes an in-depth look at how Renault Sport Team Vitality has upped its game for the new season after a hard finale to 2018.
Episode 2: Moment of Truth takes the viewer into the heart of the Renault F1® Team HQ in Enstone, UK for exclusive interviews with the Team Vitality F1™ manager James Doherty and three drivers Jarno Opmeer, Cedric Thomé and Simon Weigang.
The documentary tracks how their training compares to that of a real F1™ driver and finds astonishing similarities, before the team hits the road for the two initial rounds of racing competition as they vie for the constructors’ title and the drivers challenge for individual glory.
Six races are covered in Moment of Truth, showcasing the hyper-realistic graphics of F1™ 2019, the official F1™ video game developed by Codemasters, as the team heads first to Bahrain, Shanghai and Baku, then onto Montreal, Spielberg and Silverstone.
Competition footage is interspersed with some touching home movies that delve into the background of lead driver, Jarno Opmeer, to show off his early karting skills. On-track highlights in The Moment of Truth include Cedric Thomé’s maiden win in Montreal and rookie Simon Weigang’s point-scoring debut at Silverstone. It concludes with a soul-searching finale for Jarno Opmeer.
