If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in the nascent world of Esports, you can now find out thanks to a trail-blazing new documentary series that follows the preparation of Renault Sport Team Vitality for the 2019 F1™ Esport Series season.
Back on Track takes an in-depth look at how Renault Sport Team Vitality has upped its game for the new season after a hard finale to 2018.
Episode 3: On The Rise opens with the team only eight points off the lead as drivers Jarno Opmeer, Cedric Thomé and Simon Weigang come back refreshed after a one month break. It features exclusive interviews with all three drivers as well as Team Vitality F1™ manager James Doherty.
The documentary tracks how their races compare to those of a real F1™ driver and finds astonishing similarities when a critical – and risky – tyre choice leaves the team struggling before the decision pays off. With qualifying positions also proving just as critical to final placing as in F1™ itself, another choice has to be made between individual glory and team tactics in the fight for the constructors’ title.
Six races are covered in On The Rise, showcasing the hyper-realistic graphics of F1™ 2019, the official F1™ video game developed by Codemasters, as the team heads first to Germany, Belgium, and then Italy.
Competition footage is interspersed with behind-the-scenes action as the drivers battle for results on iconic circuits at Hockenheim, Spa, and Monza. On-track highlights in On The Rise include Jarno Opmeer’s nail-biting but ultimately dominating maiden win in Germany, followed by a vital point-scoring podium place in the next race in Belgium, before some hard lessons for the whole team at the intimidating Monza circuit in Italy. The gripping track action shows how split second decisions make as much difference in Esport as in real life racing.
How is the team holding up as things heat up in this latest round of F1™ Esport Series? Tune in to Episode 3: On The Rise to find out.
