Renault Sport Academy Driver Christian Lundgaard lifted the SMP F4 NEZ title in style at the weekend (21-22 October) by taking victory in the final race of the season at Assen, The Netherlands.

Christian entered the final round of the championship having already sealed top spot in the Drivers’ Championship courtesy of his 12 podiums – including nine wins – across the 18 races.

But he ensured he finished on a bright note by winning the last race in Assen to take his points tally for the season to 292.

Christian retired from the first race of the weekend following a spin, but took second place in race two behind team-mate Bent Viscaal.

A stunning qualifying lap time put Christian on pole position for the final race by 0.709s from Alexander Smolyar. And he kept that advantage with ease, leading from the lights, to make sure he finished his rookie single-seater season in the perfect way.

“I mean what a way to finish the championship! I lost a lot of confidence after Race One so I took it slowly in Race Two. To claim pole position by seven tenths for the final race was amazing! The weather was very tricky for Race Three, though, and everyone was on wets even though the track dried up. Taking the win in those conditions was extremely hard. But to take victory in the last race of the season in style was our way of showing people why we deserved the championship! I would like to say thanks to my team, MP Motorsport, and Renault Sport for the support throughout the season.”
